God The Giver

He who did not spare his own son but give him up for us all. How will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8:32

The word of God has amazing things to show us about God the giver. Unfortunately, in the present church, we portray him as a tight-fisted God reluctant to give. Often, we see God as holding things from us. We think that if we need anything from him, we have to beg and cry and do anything we can to talk him into giving to us.

In the creation story, God created man and breathed in his breath. He gave man a purpose, a seed to plant, beasts of the earth, birds of the air, and gave man things to take care of. God has given us his things and victory to those who call his name. God is a free giver; he likes to gift his children. One of his most incredible attributes is that he always gives: his heart overflows with love, grace, mercy, provision, and much more.

In Romans 8:32, God shows us that he can do ‘all things’ for us because he did not keep his son for himself but gave him up so that we may have life and have it more abundantly. If God can give his precious son for us, how much more can he give us? Christ is God’s gift to his elect. Christ is as a covenant, a head over us, a savior to us. Christ is our light given to us by the Father. God’s word says he gives us all things. What are the things the Father gives us? They include his presence to us, his power, and his provision. Power to live the Christian life he has called us to live through the help of the Holy Spirit.

Paul uses the word graciously to describe God’s giving. What God gives is not about what we have given to him. It is not about our sin or lack of it. The God who is for us loves us and gives us all good things based on his goodness, not ours. Here are several things we receive from God.

God is the giver of life. He created us for his glory and gave us life on this earth. John 10:10b I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly.

God is the giver of the Holy Spirit. He sent his Spirit to indwell us, empower and guide us to live for him. 1 Thessalonians 4:8 Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God who has also given us his Holy Spirit.

God is the giver of growth in all areas of our lives. God allows us to grow, develop, and cultivate our talents, gifts, and abilities to his service and glory. 1 Corinthians 3:7, So neither he who plants, nor he who water is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.

Giver of Harvest. He promises to provide for all our needs and bless us with abundance so we can share our blessing with those in need. Deuteronomy 11:14 Then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine, and olive oil. God is to provide the necessary rain for a plentiful harvest. Through provision, we can see how he is the giver of harvest.

Giver of all good things. God wants us to enjoy a life full of purpose, love, joy, and peace. James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of light, with whom is no variables, neither shadow of turning.

Giver of wisdom. He makes his infinite knowledge available to us if we seek him in prayer. Proverbs 2:6 for the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

Giver of eternal life. He has allowed us to live on this earth and gifts us eternal life through His son. Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

There are many more things God gives us. We should not worry about anything. God will give us what we need, for he knows what is best for us. God always does what is good for us. If we believe he gave his son for us, there is nothing he can not do for us.
