Get to know Dunsin ‘The Eagle’ Oyekan

Early life

Dunsin Oyekan popularly known as ‘The Eagle’ was born in Ilorin, Nigeria, to the family of Gbadebo Oyekan, the General Overseer of Evangelical Baptist Church.

Dunsin went to Airforce Nursery and Primary school Ilorin. After his primary education, he proceeded to the Federal Government College Ilorin, for his secondary education, and later left there to continue his studies at the Baptist Model High School, Ilorin. Afterward, he proceeded to the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, where he studied Industrial Chemistry.

Family

On February 2, 2013, Dunsin married his beloved wife, Adedoyin Oyekan, and the two were blessed with 2 children.

on May 18, 2019, Adedoyin passed on. 2 years since Dunsin lost his wife at a worship session at a church he was invited to minister, Dunsin Oyekan sang one of the songs “I’ll be here” from his latest album and mentioned that the song came as a special word to him when he lost his wife.

Ministry

Dunsin began playing the guitar at age 10, encouraged by his father who once led ‘Spiritual Singers’, a music group that focused on experiencing God through worship. Dunsin was once the music director of the award-winning choir – Avalanche of the Common Wealth of Zion Assembly (COZA).

For over two decades, he has birthed revelationary songs, sang in choirs, and served as a music director. In 2016, Dunsin released his 14 track debut album – Code Red. He has since released 2 more, Kingdom Now released in 2019 and The Gospel of the Kingdom which he released in 2021.

Fondly called “the Eagle”, Dunsin’s desire is to fill the atmosphere with the heart of God, witness God, and stir revival platformed on the power and wisdom of God. He does this through singing, playing the keyboard and guitar, and teaching the word of God. He is the convener of Code Red, an annual worship experience.

Awards And Nominations

Nigerian online content publishing platform, Ynaija named him one of the 100 Most Influential People in Christian Ministry in Nigeria. His song Imole De was nominated for Song of Excellence at the Africa Gospel Music and Media Awards (AGMMA) – 2019.
