The Transformative Power of Origami: A Journey of Recovery and Creativity.

Written by on May 30, 2024

Hey everyone, it’s Ernest Wamboye here, and today I want to share a personal story about one of my long-standing hobbies – origami. For many years, I have found joy and solace in the art of paper folding. But it’s not just a hobby for me; it has played a significant role in my journey of recovery from pornography addiction during my time in university.

You see, during that period, I realized that the devil was trying to steal, kill, and destroy my life, just as it says in John 10:10. One of the ways he was doing this was by consuming my spare time and energy with unhealthy habits. But thankfully, through divine intervention, I was delivered from that addiction. And as my mind slowly recovered, origami came to my rescue.

Origami not only helped me reorder my time but also sharpened my attention span and granted me dexterity through the delicate art of paper folding. It became a therapeutic outlet for me, allowing me to channel my focus and creativity into something positive and constructive.

As time went on, my passion for origami grew, and it even started opening doors for me financially. I had the opportunity to showcase my skills by creating beautiful decorative pieces for various events. One of the most significant gigs I landed was designing decor for a fashion show held at the elegant Tribe Hotel along Limuru Road. It was an incredible experience to see my origami creations come to life and add a touch of elegance to the event.

But lately, I haven’t been sharing much of my origami work online. It’s not for any particular reason; I’ve just been more focused on sharing my preaching and ministry content. However, I want to break that silence today and share with you a project I’m currently working on – a family of hummingbirds commissioned by a client.

These delicate paper birds are a joy to create, and each fold brings me a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. It’s a reminder of the beauty that can emerge from simplicity and the power of transforming a mere sheet of paper into a work of art.

In addition to my origami endeavors, I also have another gift that has been lying dormant for some time – theatrical storytelling. It’s a natural talent that I’ve been longing to revive, and I believe the time may be right to combine it with an origami class. Imagine the magic of bringing stories to life through captivating performances while also teaching the art of paper folding. It’s an idea that excites me, and I hope to bring it to fruition sometime this year.

So, there you have it – a glimpse into my connection with origami and how it has impacted my life. It’s not just about folding paper; it’s about finding healing, discovering hidden talents, and sharing the beauty of creation with others.

Thank you for joining me on this journey, and stay tuned for more updates on my origami and theatrical storytelling adventures. Who knows, maybe you’ll be inspired to pick up a sheet of paper and start folding yourself!

Until next time,

Ernest Wamboye
