By the age of 14, Katy was singing and leading worship in her church choir. Her family moved to Arizona while she was in 6th grade. It was in Arizona that she started looking out for online singing competitions and opportunities. Her father helped her find one in Orange County, California called ‘So-Cal Icon’ and she made it to the top 10.

Later that year, she enrolled in a youth music program in Scottsdale called Hot Pipes. During her second year there, Katy was named the Singer of the Year.

Katy’s father gifted her a ukulele and then a keyboard in 2019. According to Katy, he told her that he wanted her to start writing her own music. She said that her father knew that all she needed was a little encouragement.

Katy Nichole’s Testimony

Prior to writing “In Jesus Name (God of Possible),” Katy Nichole was born with congenital scoliosis. The diagnosis was done at her kindergarten and she was referred to an orthopedic surgeon who monitored her for the next six years.

According to the singer, the type of scoliosis that she had is known to be very aggressive. Katy had a growth spurt which made her scoliosis start to progress quickly. By this time, her family had moved to Arizona.

Katy was bullied by the time her scoliosis curve was becoming very obvious. It became very hard for her to take solace in music.

Katy Nichole’s Surgery

In August of 2015, she had a spinal fusion surgery which was expected to fix things. However, within six months, after the surgery, her body was not accepting the metal that was placed to support her spine. She had to undergo all kinds of therapy and exercise but she still was in pain.

Nevertheless, this did not stop her singing and she also became an ambassador for her hospital and an advocate for anti-bullying. She went on to tell her story in order to spread awareness for early detection of scoliosis.

Three years later, Katy went back in for surgery to essentially remove the metal rods and screws that had been placed in her back.

“I went in for the second surgery, and I came out of it, and the smoke cloud of depression was gone. I encountered the Lord at that moment,” Katy remembers. “When I got my X-rays after surgery, my spine was actually straighter than when the rods had been in it. So when I say that God can do miracles, I mean it, because I’ve seen it.”

Katy is currently Serving as an ambassador for the Shriners Hospitals for Children and as a volunteer for Musicians On Call.

“There’s no story that doesn’t matter to God. Every story was written by Him, and He’s the greatest author of all time,” Katy declares. “God’s healed me, so I know He can heal someone else. I’m going to share my story and hope it will encourage others to go and share theirs.”
