Today we look at award-winning, American singer, pianist, and songwriter Donald James Moen alias Don Moen.

Early Life

Moen was born on June 29, 1950, as Donald James Moen, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States of America. Moen graduated from high school in 1968. Then he attended the University of Oklahoma, earning a degree in music in 1972. He then studied at Oral Roberts University and traveled with Terry Law Ministries as a Living Sound musician for 10 years.


Moen is married to Laura Lee Szuchna. The couple tied the knot in 1973 and together they are blessed with five grown-up children namely, Melissa Moen, James Moen, John Moen, Rachel Moen, and Michael Moen.

He worked for Integrity Media for over 20 years, serving as creative director and president of Integrity Music, president of Integrity Label Group, and an executive producer of Integrity Music albums. He left Integrity Media in December 2007 to start a new initiative, The Don Moen Company. The Don Moen Company acquired MediaComplete, the church software company that created MediaShout.

He also worked with the likes of Claire Cloninger, Paul Overstreet, Martin J. Nystrom, Randy Rothwell, Ron Kenoly, Bob Fitts, Debbye Graafsma, Paul Baloche, Tom Brooks, among many others. He worked with musicians, Justo Almario, Carl Albrecht, Abraham Laboriel, Alex Acuna, Paul Jackson, Jr., Lenny LeBlanc and Chris Graham. He was instrumental in launching the music careers of Paul Baloche, Darlene Zschech, Israel Houghton, and Hillsong United.

In 2009, Moen became a radio host for Don Moen & Friends. Moen received a Dove Award for his work on the musical God with Us in addition to nine nominations for his songs. His song “God Will Make a Way” was nominated for a Dove Award, and two years later, he won one for the musical God With Us.
