The Art of Kingdom Business Part 1

Written by on August 12, 2024

What is the art kingdom business and how does it work? I have never been a business-minded person looking back on my life. I always saw myself in formal employment. I always saw myself climbing the career ladder and not as an entrepreneur. When I eventually got into the business, I never thought about the kingdom principles of business. I just got confirmation from my friend about my business successes. I prayed and thought that was it. The only thing I knew about business is what I found in Proverbs 11:1 – God detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him. With this word, I knew all I needed in business was honesty.

Building a kingdom business is a worthy goal for Christian business owners. Building a kingdom-focused business requires one to be intentional and purposeful. It is not something that happens without a vision or plan. A kingdom entrepreneur is a business owner who believes in God and is committed to building a business that honors God. Kingdom entrepreneurs operate their businesses with kingdom business principles and see business as an avenue to further the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you, like me, have been wondering how to build a business that honors God and fulfills a need, let us look at some important principles we focus on.

Focus on acquiring knowledge: proverbs 18:15, An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. As a business owner, you compete with other enterprises whether you like it or not. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Christian or not. The other businesses in your industry are your competitors. One thing successful kingdom entrepreneurs know is learning never stops. You have to keep working to gain more experience and knowledge in your field. You need the knowledge to improve your products or services, make the right business decisions, hire the right people, and fix problems that arise in your business. Knowledge increases our competitive advantage and makes it easy for us to stand out. Proverbs 24:5 a wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might. Knowledge is pleasant to the soul and should coveted. The quest for knowledge begins with the fear of the Lord. Without fear of the Lord, knowledge is pointless.

Put others first: Philippians 2:4 Let each look not only to his interests but also to the interest of others. We are not in business only to make money for ourselves but to impact lives. Our business is a powerful tool for outreach and making lives better. Acts 20:25 tells us it’s more blessed to give than to receive. That’s the attitude we should have if we want to be a blessing to our customers, employees, or those we come across. When we put others first, it shows that we care for people and they are not something we gain from. The best way to put others first is to put yourself in others’ shoes. We feel their pain and identify their needs. We effortlessly create solutions. Never start by asking for what you want. Focus on what they want and what you can give.

Be a doer: James 2:18, But someone will say, you have faith and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. The world has people with good ideas. The problem is a lot of these ideas never see the light of day because of inaction. As kingdom entrepreneurs, we are focused on executing our plan if we want to achieve our goals. Taking action means being consistent and disciplined in the execution of our goals. If we want to build a business that carries on, we should learn to be consistent over a long period. We need to know the importance of perseverance and persistence. Taking action and executing our plan is the only way to accomplish our goals. Taking action is the only way we know what works and what doesn’t. Become disciplined and consistent in executing ideals. Don’t let fear of the unknown or fear of failure stop you. Put your faith to work.

In the next few weeks, we will explore this topic and how God wants his people to do business. Part two
