Early Life
Lecrae Devaughn Moore was born on October 9, 1979, in Houston, Texas. He was raised by his single mother in a poor neighborhood in southern Houston. Shortly after his birth, he moved to Denver, away from his father, then to San Diego. At the age of 6, he was sexually abused by his babysitter. As a teenager, he struggled with drug addiction and engaged in criminal activity.
Conversion to Christianity
Lecrae became a Christian in 1995 at the age of 16. He credits his conversion to his grandmother, who shared her faith with him. Lecrae’s conversion led him to quit using drugs and turn his life around.
Music Career
Lecrae released his first mixtape, “Real Talk,” in 2003. He followed it up with a series of increasingly successful mixtapes and studio albums. His seventh studio album, “Anomaly,” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart in 2014. Lecrae has won two Grammy Awards, one for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for “Anomaly” and one for Best Rap Performance for his song “100.”
