Archbishop Jackson OleSapit handed over shepherd staff that was used by the 1st Anglican Archbishop the late Olang’.

The 6th Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Jackson Ole Sapit who is on a one-week episcopal visit to Diocese of Maseno North yesterday 26th January 2022, visited and fellowshipped with the family of the 1st African archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya and Bishop of Nairobi, the late Archbishop Festus Olang’ in the company of bishop the 6th.

He was also taken on a tour of an archive with personal and Pastoral instruments used by Archbishop Festus Olang’ during his Ministry as the 1st Bishop of Maseno North and as the 1st Anglican Archbishop.

Archbishop Olang’s family handed over to His Grace the (current) Archbishop, a shepherd staff that was used by the late Archbishop. The services took place at ACK All Saints Esabalu in Luanda Constituency, Vihiga County.

Olang’ and Obadiah Kariuki were consecrated the first two African assistant bishops in Kenya by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Geoffrey Fisher, at Namirembe Cathedral, in Kampala, Uganda, on 15 May 1955.

Shortly after the division of the province of East Africa into two new provinces, Kenya and Tanzania, Olang’ was chosen to be the first African Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya and Bishop of Nairobi, with his enthronement taking place at the All Saints Cathedral, in Nairobi, on 3 August 1970, in a ceremony presided by Archbishop Leonard Beecher.
