As Chelsea lost the FA cup final at the hands of a Pierre Emerick Aubameyang masterclass ,a clearly distraught Olivier giroud could not help but watch as his former employers lifted the trophy at Wembley. However,he wore a t-shirt that wrote,Love Jesus, and it got me thinking about writing this piece
Giroud is a devout Christian, who is very much a man who loves God. He has a tattoo that reads the Latin phrase ‘Dominus regit me et nihil mihi deerit’ tattooed on him, which translates to ‘The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want’.
He also has designs on his left bicep that symbolises faith, love, family, friends and health. It brings him comfort everywhere he goes.He is a member of the St.Barnabas church where he speaks to his pastor when things get tough. This season, his unwavering belief in God has worked wonders for him because at some point,it looked like his Chelsea career was over under Frank Lampard. He had started only 2 Premier League games under Lampard and did not play a single minute between the start of December and mid-February.However,Tammy Abraham suffered an injury and since then,Giroud has netted 8 times in 12 appearances, showing God has been there for him.
Giroud has always been a role model to younger peers for club and country such as Kylian Mbappe and Tammy Abraham. When Tammy missed a decisive spot-kick in the supercup final against Liverpool,he was subject to social media abuse. However,Giroud sent him a message, quoting the book of Isaiah 40 :27-31,which states in a nutshell that those who find their faith in the Lord will renew their strength
His story shows us that no matter how hard things may get for us, faith in He who gives us strength will take us to new heights. James says that faith without action is dead. Giroud was constantly training hard even when he was not getting picked, often being seen practicing their finishing with Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi on the training ground. Believe it,else it is not possible to achieve what you want to.
